Twitch Turns Curse into Desktop App as Company Continues Adding Features to Platform

Twitch continues its string of updates with the launch of a desktop app. The desktop app is based on Curse, a community platform popular among gamers that Twitch acquired last year.

“One of the best things about the Twitch community is the people you connect with on your journey,” says Brian Petrocelli, who works in product marketing at Twitch. “Over the past few months, our teams have been hard at work merging the best of the Curse platform to create our own Twitch experience.”

With the desktop app, users will be able to create their own Twitch server for their community to hang out in and stay in touch, even when a user’s stream is offline. The app will also incoprorate Curse’s add-on community so users can find and install game add-ons.

The Twitch Desktop App launches March 16.Earlier this month Twitch announced plans for a game marketplace akin to Steam and even more recently unveiled Pulse, a social media feed.
