Apple Expands PC Marketshare as Mac Sales Grow with Microsoft Computers on Decline

Apple’s PC marketshare in North America jumped nearly 4% over the holiday quarter thanks to iMac sales growth outpacing every other brand.

According to new data from Gartner, Apple’s US marketshare rose from 9.9% to 13.7%. Growth in the fourth quarter of 2013 (compared to the year ago quarter) was nearly 29%, significantly higher than any competitor. Dell sales rose 7.4% and Leovo sales rose a modest 3.5%, but most brands saw declines: HP sales dipped 10.3% and Toshiba sales crashed 13.9%.

Gartner suggests that Apple sold almost 2.2 million units, well ahead of Lenovo and Toshiba. However, this data is preliminary and in contention with IDC, whose own release of new data suggests Apple sold just 1.6 million units, fewer than Lenovo.

Apple will report its own earnings on January 27.
