Bitcoin Reaches $1,000 for First Time in Three Years

Entering the new year on a roll is Bitcoin, the digital currency whose value is riding a three-year high.

Thanks to a rise of 125% in 2016, one Bitcoin is now worth more than $1,000, its highest since December 2013.

The historically volatile currency is mostly traded in China, where the yuan fell in 2016.

Bitcoin’s all-time high is $1,163 in 2013, before crashing to $400 in 2014 and zig-zagging its way back up since.

Many believe Bitcoin’s value will continue to rise through 2017, ending anywhere from $1,400 to $3,000.
