HTC Slashes Price of Vive VR to Reach Mass Market

Effective immediately, HTC has decided to reduce the price of its Vive virtual reality headset by $200.

“The high-end, PC-based consumer Vive that is in market today, and will be for the foreseeable future, will now be available for $599,” the company announced this week. “Vive is the leader globally in high-end VR, and this new entry price will make the system available to an even broader audience.”

At the reduced price, Vive purchases will still include a trial to Viveport Subscription, where consumers can choose up to five titles per month to experience.

“When customers purchase Vive, they are getting superior VR technology and the most complete ecosystem in VR,” HTC said. “Vive has the best tracking technology and most compelling content.”

The company added that it is working “tirelessly” to improve Vive, stating that this remains the “beginning stages” of what HTC has in store for Vive.
