OMsignal Introduces Clothing that Tracks your Performance, Health and Fitness

OMsignal today introduced “Biometric Smartwear” for men.

Using health sensors embedded into the fabric, OM’s four new shirts monitor your activity, physiological stress, and fitness levels, according to the company, “giving you total control over your fitness and everyday performance.”

Starting at $199, they will likely be among the more expensive shirts you ever buy, but OM insists their high-quality materials and advanced technology justify the steep price tag. Slates to ship this summer, the shirts will be availble in a variety of sizes and colours, according to the company.

“The fitness shirts’ compression properties enhance blood circulations and oxygen delivery to the muscles, thereby enhancing performance and recovery of the wearer,” OM explains, adding that the shirts have “additional slimming and posture support benefits.”

Some of the metrics tracked by the sensors appear a little gimmicky—there’s “Body Fuel” and an RPM gauge, for example—but most are practical, such as heartrate and breathing, as well as bonus features like email reports and gamification to make things competitive. And thee shirts are designed to work wirelessly with your smartphone for real-time data.

“Clothing has always been about protection and fashion, but it will now also help motivate us to better ourselves every day,” says Stéphane Marceau, CEO and cofounder of OMsignal. “You would never drive a car without a speedometer, RPM or a fuel gauge, right? Well, with OM, you now get a dashboard to better steer your life, to increase your self-mastery, to push your fitness performance, and live a healthier lifestyle.”

Last year the Montreal-based startup raised $1 million in venture capital from Real Ventures, Golden Venture Partners, and David Cohen of TechStars.
