Prime Air Takes Flight: Amazon Officially Testing Drone Delivery

Amazon has begun testing private drone delivery in the UK. The initial testing phase is extremely small, limited to just two shoppers.

However, we all know Amazon is ambitious, and has plans to rapidly expand its test to hundreds of consumers in the area.

Amazon’s drone delivery service is branded as Prime Air, an extension of the all-encompassing Prime service, which includes fast shipping, Netflix-style video streaming, and Spotify-style music streaming.

The first drone delivery took just 13 minutes from the time the customer ordered to the time the package—an Amazon Fire TV and a bag of popcorn—was delivered.

The drones, which are traditional quadcopters, intend to deliver seven days a week—but only in daylight and fair weather.
